We’ve seen some birds the past few days. A few are Red wing black birds, mockingbirds, Kiskadee, great tailed grackles and a hummingbird. When the weather is cold they show up to be fed. I don’t have feeders out because the black birds empty them in seconds, it seems. But I do have a window feeder and of course the hummingbird feeder on the window. On the fence we have a peanut butter log that a mockingbird guards with a vengeance. A little Carolina wren has visited when he can slip by the mockingbird.

It looks like today will be warmer. I know Jim likes that. He has always said he wants the weather warm enough to wear shorts and go barefoot. We haven’t had much of that this winter.

Last night we went to a pot luck dinner/party at Jeni and Don’s (managers, Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort). Six couples and we all brought good food to eat! Jeni grilled some pork riblets and we had salads, macaroni and cheese, ham and beans, a pasta and chicken dish and cake for dessert. Terry brought a cooler full of beer that we helped to drink J Thanks Terry for letting us bring home the leftovers! A couple of hours later we broke up and headed home.

When we learned the flea market wasn't open today Jim asked if I'd like to go visit Marilyn and Ed over at LLano Grande in Mercedes. We've spent the past two summers with them in Colorado Springs and consider them good friends. Of course I said yes! And then I asked if we could go out to lunch too! Of course Jim said yes....

So we changed into city clothes and headed out. Our first stop was Target so Jim could look at the patio chairs they have there. I picked up a chair the other day for me and he likes it. Then we headed to Kumori for a delicious lunch. I had shrimp tempura and Jim had Beef something or other. we both had hot green tea. We both like this restaurant but I wish we could find a Japanese restaurant that doesn't use butter in everything.

After our lovely lunch we headed east on highway 83 to visit with our friends. As we passed McAllen we noticed a traffic jam on the west bound side. Traffic was backed up for a couple miles and we decided we'd head home the back way when we left Marilyn and Ed's. Shortly thereafter we arrived at our friends home on wheels and found Ed outside setting up the patio. After a few hugs we were enjoying some cold drinks and the company of our dear friends. We chatted about everything under the sun in an effort to catch up with our lives! Of course we talked about future travels. (the fact that we read each others blogs has nothing to do with this!)

They were expecting more friends to arrive from San Antonio and Sherry and Rick called when they arrived at the resort. After giving them some time to check in and set up we drove over to greet them. I'm sure we met them in Colorado Springs but no matter we met them again and the six of us decided to have a bite to eat at Fat Daddy's, a bbq place that people line up to eat at! We got there just before crowds arrived and had some mighty good food. What more do we need? Good Friends and good food...as Ed would say, Life is Good!

Once home we were invited over to the Scotts for dessert! More food!!!! So I made a cup of coffee, fed Boo and the three of us headed next door. We sat talking with Anne and Scotty for about an hour....


Once home I showered, Boo is sleeping and I'm watching a show about Freaky Festivals on FLN

trying to stay warm

yesterday we played hookey and skipped dance class. We had a couple planned stops. First one was Petco where we dropped Boo off for a 'spa' treatment. :) Then we headed to lunch at Kumori at, but they don't open until 1130!

So I suggested we visit the Veterans Memorial because Jim hadn't seen it. Though it isn't finished it is very impressive. While there I saw a family of Jack Rabbits off in the distance. I couldn't get close enough to count them. but it looked like half dozen or so.

Then we popped into Sports Authority to look for a hat for Jim. He lost one of his and wants to replace it. No luck though. Then we parked by Barnes and Nobles and walked over to Kumori. The lunch menu is good and we enjoyed our lunch. Jim had beef teppanyaki and I had a chicken rice bowl. We shared gyozo and hot green tea.

While we were eating the front started coming through and the rain and wind were cold and nasty, making the walk back to Barnes and Nobles a fast paced walk! We went inside and spent an hour or so looking at magazines and books. Didn't buy anything.

Then we headed to HEB to pick up a few things and we called and Boo was ready to pick up. He sure was glad to see us! And I was glad to see him, I hate leaving him with strangers.

Back home we settled in and tried to stay warm! The temperature kept dropping all afternoon and a frost was predicted. I don't think we got one but it did dip into the upper 30's.

Right now it's 38 degrees outside and our furnace is working hard! This arctic blast of cold weather is the pits!

Lunch with My Honey

Yesterday I was up at my usual time, just after 0700 and after I had my coffee I went for a walk around the resort. I picked up a Sunday paper and stopped at the garden. Nothing new at the garden :( Apparently we have an armadillo that is keeping an eye on things down there.

Back home I had some breakfast and then threw a load of laundry in the wash machine. Jim skipped breakfast but he did some work on the street side of the rig before it got to hot. when he came in he asked if I'd like to have lunch out and go to Barnes and Nobles. Sure! He shaved and dressed then I did.

Soon we were on our way, but first we had to make a stop at Wal*Mart for a mounting bracket for the TV. He wants to mount the TV in the compartment. I'll have more on that when the job continues.

Then we went to Palms Crossing to have lunch at Kumori, http://www.kumori-sushi.com/. They brought soup right after we sat down, then the waiter took our drink order of hot green tea. We enjoyed this while we read the menu. We started with an order of gyoza, delicious!

I had Yaki-soba shrimp, stir fried noodles with veggies and shrimp. But my noodles were spaghetti! different texture for the meal. my lunch was served in a huge bowl, steaming hot!

Jim had mixed Teppanyaki, shrimp, beef tenderloin and chicken with veggies.

Everything was wonderful. We both like Japanese food. Well we like Asian food in general! After lunch we went to Barnes and Nobles to read magazines and check on books. We didn't buy anything and about an hour later we left. Nice way to spend time during the heat of the day.

We arrived back home in time to watch the end of the Saints game! How exciting....they won and are 9-0 for the season. We spent time watching football the rest of the afternoon and only went out to walk Boo. We stopped at the Scott's, Anne was carving. Scotty came out and he and Jim had a beer. Anne and I needed to check the garden so we left and watered our plots.

Amy joined us and we had a nice visit with her. by the time we got back it was time for dinner and we parted. We didn't have dinner, Jim fixed himself some peanut butter and crackers while I opted for smoked salmon, cheese (soy, of course!) and crackers.

I know we watched some Nat Geo and then we watched more football! The Colts were playing and they won also...So the Colts and the Saints are the only teams that are 9-0....We stayed up late to watch the ending and it was a squeaker!
