When it rains, it pours

If you think I'm going to talk about rain you've got another think coming!  Our everyday life is pretty calm and quiet.  But not this week!

On Monday long awaited parts, to fix the toilet that has had a slow drip for months, arrived.  Always out of stock we both anticipated this simple part for a simple repair.

Tuesday we had places to be in Tallahassee so into town we went.  Also enjoyed some lunch.  On the way home the right front break started grabbing on the truck.  Oh No!  So Jim called around and found a place where we could drop it off, have it looked at.

But!

On Wednesday morning Jim started the repair on the toilet and another part snapped off.  The rig is almost 20 years old so things are going to break.  Since this toilet is a much needed item he called around to see about mobile repair coming out to fix it.  They said yes, but it will be Friday morning.  At our age sleeping though the night without a toilet or having to schlep to the bathhouse is not acceptable.  So Jim arranged for a room at the hotel about a block from here.

Meanwhile Sonsearae and I had pedicures to get after she got off from work at noon.   We arranged for her to meet us at the garage (brake on the truck) so she could drive us into town for lunch and the appointment.  Also to pick up a rental car. After we got home on Wednesday we relaxed with some coffee, I had a bite to eat, we packed for an overnight visit and headed to the hotel.

We still needed somewhere to rest our weary bones on Thursday night.  Sonsearae offered us a bed.  So we just packed up some clean clothes and headed her way on Thursday morning.

During all this time we had to deal with rain showers here and there.  We dropped off our belongings and visited awhile before we headed to Costco for some veggies.  We brought a cooler and of course we made use of her fridge and freezer overnight.  We had a good visit, a lovely dinner and all three of us were in bed by around 2200.

I should mention that Chris is out of town.  He was missed especially by Sonsearae and their dog Maui.

Friday we had to be home for the repair to the toilet.  So I roused Jim around 0730, we packed up and headed out just before 0800.  Most of the traffic was headed into town so that posed no problem for us

I'm happy to report the toilet is operational and we are happy campers ensconced in our home once again.  It's been a costly week and it isn't over.  We still need to get the truck, hopefully today.

How was your week?

Challenge cards using a OSW  using 6x6 paper, from Jessica Taylor.  The card on the left uses the tear a flip method.  It shows the reverse side of the DSP.

Circles can make for an interesting design!

Finished up a Paper Pumpkin kit

The next three pictures are a OSW from Jessica Taylor
I really like the colors in these cards
btw OSW stands for one sheet wonder.  You use the whole sheet of DSP paper.  In this case it was 12 x 12 inch paper

Not much is going on

Welcome back to another thrilling update on our lives!

                                        Just kidding!

Our daily lives are anything but exciting.  We do manage to entertain ourselves with reading and games.  I try to get my chores done in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.  Doesn't always work.  Jim on the other hand is adapting to retirement more and more each day.  No exercise to speak of as it's hot out there!

My zinnias and marigolds are blooming so there is bright spots of color on the plants.  No tomatoes, the buds/blossoms just fall off because of the heat.  Most days see us in the 90's.  Thank goodness the humidity is low during the day (odd for Florida).  Bell peppers are being picked along with jalapenos and cucumbers.  But their blooms are rare now.  One of the basils I've left to go to seed so I can scatter them all about!

We watch dvds from the library, three a week.  We dug out some of our dvds and borrowed some from Sonsearae and Chris.  PBS, HGTV are the channels we watch most on TV.  But mostly we don't turn it on.

You'll Never Guess!

Rain...I swear it rains daily!  Some days more than others.  A brief shower appears, a minute later the sun is out...then it rains again.  Sometimes the sun is out and it rains!  The plants and trees are soaking it up and everything is lush and green.  But it sure makes it gloomy.

Had Lunch with Sonsearae today.  She's been away visiting and it was good to see here.  Of course we saw her last Thursday for lunch so it hadn't been that long! We've been eating out a lot lately.  To hot to cook.

Sunday Jim and I went for burgers and then he surprised me with a drive down to Shell Point.  Quite nice there.  If you're into boating it's the place to be.  There is a beach, retirement communities, a lot of raised housing, some condos.  We need to go back and check it out further.

Tuesday it was Subway.  First we stopped by the library and returned the dvds and we got three more.  Have you seen Captain Phillips with Tom Hanks?  Whew!  it was intense.  Went to Winn-Dixie for bread and other necessary items.  Subway has new items on the menu!  We brought a couple sandwiches home for lunch.

I call this kind of card 'out of the box'.  This looks like Echo Park and Stampin' Up!  I just take the supplies I have and make a card

Christmas in July challenge.

Stack and Shuffle technique where you take four sheets of paper, cut them according to a template and shuffle the papers

Using up DSP.  Who knew I'd have so much trouble using up my pretty papers?   I love this Hello stamp from a recent Paper Pumpkin kit

The skies are grey and overcast, but it isn't raining!

Rain, Libraries and Cards

Tuesday is Library Day.  We usually get 3 movies to watch.  Recently we saw Knives Out with a cast of characters.  And I do mean characters.  If you haven't seen it, you should!

Have I ever mentioned the wind?  More days than not we have afternoon winds that rival the winds we experienced in Texas.  Awning up, awning down....of course when the awning is up we get afternoon sun, makes the AC run...endless circle.

Fueled up the other day...$163!  Diesel was $5.49. I shouldn't complain as it still costs more in Europe and other countries.  Even other states.  But it sure takes a chunk out of the budget.

Finally got Jim into the Veteran system!  Found out he was qualified and he saw his primary care person.  We'll be working on all the benefits he's entitled to.

Our days of spontaneously jumping into the truck for an adventure are over.  Our trips involve grocery, visits with our girls and visits that involve medical people.  Yes, depending on how long the day will be we will stop for a meal.

We've had a lot of rain this past week!  For the most part it soaks in rather quickly with all the sand around here.  I know my plants liked it.  Yesterday we were rain free.

Nothing to see here!

Not sure where the time goes, but I do think about writing my blog...Honest.  But our daily life is pretty boring.  For me it's the daily chores of dishes, laundry etc.  For Jim...well, it's whatever pleases him.

He has been pressure washing the patio, but some days it's just to hot to get it started,  let alone finishing it.  He reads!  A lot and plays games and watches YouTube all from the comfort of his chair

We had this lovely critter visit us.  Since he was discovered escaping from the arm of the awning I guess he spent the night there.

We were sitting at the table enjoying breakfast when I first spotted him eyeing our food!  When we extended the awning he plopped onto the patio and Jim was able to fling him over into the wooded area or at least close to it.  Haven't seen him since!

I've forgotten all the details for these cards.

I did enjoy making them!  This set and the one above are Stampin' Up! products

These are from an Echo Park Kit

This is a project I found so I finished it.

Hand Penned DSP and ephemera from a Memories and More pack by the same name.  The diagonal design is a good way to use scraps of paper

My garden in pots is doing ok.  I especially like it when it rains and the plants soak it in.  No more tomatoes for awhile. It's to hot for the flowers to set fruit.  The Mockingbird loves the little red, ripe fruit!
