Memorial Weekend

I hope your holiday weekend is full of memory making!  As you enjoy your gatherings please take a moment to remember those who have died so we could enjoy our families this Memorial Day weekend.

Speaking of memories, this weekend is significant for Jim and I.  I invited him over for dinner on Memorial Day in 1974 and we've been together ever since!  We had spaghetti then and we had spaghetti today. We celebrate two anniversaries, the next will be in August when we  tied the knot.

It has warmed up here and under mostly sunny skies the temperature is 88 degrees at 1530.  We're just chillin' indoors.  Gaming, reading and watching YouTube.  Oh and napping (Jim) while I type this.

We've been getting DVD's from the library and so far Jim has enjoyed the Hunger Games series.  It's a small library and I need to go online to see if they are affiliated with libraries across the area.  If so maybe I can request movies and books from them.

Rain and more rain!

Our morning started dreary and rain is forecast.  Right before 0900 the rains came and it rained for at least two hours. We had a lunch date with Sonsearae and thought for sure we'd get wet.  The drive took about 10 minutes and not one drop of rain fell.  For us it was a new seafood restaurant.  We all enjoyed the lunch specials, cleaned our plates and declared it a winner.

After lunch we stopped at the library and dropped off two DVD's and got three more.  Jim is watching the Hunger Games.  I found a cookbook on how to prepare potatoes 72 ways!  Should be interesting.

Stopped at the office to pick up our mail and it started raining shortly after we got home.  It's 1625 and it's still raining!

Apparently we need to prevent shootings at our schools.  Gun control is not the answer.  But perhaps some type of armed guard at the schools would help.  Heaven knows there are a lot of out of work people, some should qualify for this position.  Maybe those metal detectors would help.  It's a shame that disturbed people feel the need to kill innocent people at any venue.  Local authorities need to act, not with more gun laws but with providing protection.

Clouds and rain?

Just after I got up at 0630 we had a brief rain shower.  I love the sound of a gentle rain on our roof.  Makes me smile.  All morning the rain stayed away but the clouds remained.  And humid?  whew.  This is when Jim decided to head outdoors to work on the edging.  We still need more to finish the project, then mulch.

I did some cleaning in the bedroom.  Got out the vacuum and tried to get all the nooks and crannies.  Small bedroom makes for tight spaces!  Made potato salad, corn on the cob and leftover baked beans for lunch.  Not very exciting but it was tasty!  Spent the afternoon napping or reading.  I napped, Jim read.  Just a typical day around here.

We had a huge black cloud move over us this afternoon.  Reminded me of Joe in the Lil Abner cartoon...Just sprinkled then moved on.

Lazy Sunday

The sky is overcast, has been all day.  Smattering of rain just as we wanted to take the trash down.  I suppose we should look at the radar and see what the weather is going to be like.  Always nice to be prepared.

Neither one of us has done any outside work today.  The humidity makes it uncomfortable.  I've done the normal dishes and fixed us BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans and cucumbers for our dinner.

This little critter was behind the rig the other day and having a tough time getting over our coiled hose.  I picked him up and placed him in the shade.  I also dribbled some water on him as I don't know how long his was struggling in the full sun.

He finally poked his head out out and after ten minutes or so started traveling again, headed for the pond no doubt.
He did stop to rest, out in the full sun!  But didn't linger long

Improvements to our site

We are slowly getting better while building up our stamina.  We have some outdoor projects that involve some physical labor and boy, do we feel it!  Especially Jim as he's installing our edging.  There is asphalt along the edge of our site that is unsightly.  Can't remove it without heavy equipment and since there is about a 4-5 inch drop-off we're putting the edging in and we'll cover the ugly stuff with mulch.  I can always put some potted plants on the mulch,  inside the border.

See all that asphalt?  And the drop off?
we're addressing that problem!

We got the edging idea from our neighbor as he covered the area between our rigs.  I'll have to get a picture of it because it looks ever so nice!  We've already made two trips to Costco for the edging...Jim can only do so much at a time and I'm not much help.  My potted plants are doing good except for one tomato plant.  Somehow it was stunted and has stopped growing.  There is one tomato about two and half inches across, so I'm letting it grow to see what becomes of it.  Little tiny cucumbers are appearing.  I've picked three jalapenos.

Spent some time with Sonsearae and Chris Saturday.  She and I went to Costco before my haircut at noon.  Jim picked me up from the salon and we went to their house for pizza.  Chris had a conference, week before last in Ashville, North Carolina and Sonsearae accompanied him. He returned Monday but Sonsearae stayed on and visited with her BFF Holly for a few days.  They've been friends since high school.  Holly and family drove over for the weekend to Ashville then Sonsearae drove home with Holly.  Fun was had by all, I'm sure!

Update! We’re still here!

Goodness! It’s been awhile since I’ve updated y’all, so here I am at long last.  I’ll just give a brief synopsis because a lot of what has happened will be boring.

We went to Disney World in April! Sonsearae arranged it all and we enjoyed it. She has a side gig of arranging trips for Disney, if you're interested let me know or check out her page on Facebook.

We ate at some fine restaurants and enjoyed that too.  One day we went to Epcot

All the flowers were very pretty. Walking around was pleasant, even if we weren’t used to standing so much. Each day tired us out!

Magic Kingdom! This was my favorite. Having been raised on Disney shows with Mickey and  his pals it was delightful to see them again.

The theme right now is celebrating 50 years of WDW.  When Sonsearae was about a year old we visited. That was the beginning of a love affair for her!

While on Mainstreet we managed to catch a parade! A lot of new character but plenty of our favorites.

After our return from Disney we both came down with head colds. Couple days later it settled into my chest. Then the fun began!  NOT! I spent most of my awake time coughing my lungs up. At least 4 nights I slept 10 hours and I took a lot of naps. Food was not a priority and I lost weight, but my blood pressure improved! Jim didn’t seem to be as bad off as myself. Finally went to the VA’s version of emergency room. Covid protocol,  as I was kept from the general population in a cubicle, in a corner. Two nurses came in and talked to me, took my vitals. Swabbed my nose.  Then the doctor came in and we talked. He listened to my lungs and detected a ‘squeak’ or inflamed bronchial tubes. Squeak was his word. Prescribed an antibiotic and a steroid. It did not cure me but it did ease the symptoms.

I must say I feel much better today but it has been a slow process getting any strength back. Yes, the test results said I had Covid.
