It has been raining all day!
Started around 0730 and has rained or sprinkled all day and it's still raining. We've been entertaining ourselves reading and playing games. I didn't go outside at all and Jim only went out to refill my laundry detergent bottle. He had planned on checking the pressure in the tires for our trip tomorrow.....nothing happened to get ready for our next move.
I spent the day doing laundry and cooking. I made a loaf of cinnamon brown sugar bread and a pot of Black Bean and Salsa soup. Both helped keep us warm as I don't think the temperature rose above 60 all day.
Saturday Jim finally felt well enough to clean the bugs off the front of the rig from our trip here. Then slept the afternoon away as he wasn't in top form. They say it takes long to recover from illness when your older and I'm here to tell you.....it does! Even though I've been over the symptoms I look forward to going to bed each night. Jim is just now getting over the symptoms. And he'll be doing outside prep in the drizzly rain tomorrow morning.
Sunday we were ready to venture out for groceries and decided lunch out would be nice. We chose Carrabbas and had a lovely Italian meal. Since it was in a mall parking lot we decided to walk the mall because we haven't gotten any exercise since these colds brought us so low. We only walked once around and we barely got 5000 steps for the day...
Then we headed for groceries and it was one of those super Kroger's, you know the ones with clothing and household goods. I managed to find the few items I needed but having never been in this store before it was dash here and return there before we got everything. We were bushed when we left and Jim napped when we got home and I collapsed on the lounger and checked my eyelids for light leaks.
We rested that evening because we Monday we were driving to Spotsylvania to meet up with friends we haven't seen in four years!
Monday was a beautiful, sunny day and our drive was just over an hour to Spotsylvania. Terry and Mark are staying in Quantico and we figured this was about halfway for both of us. This city is the county seat and has a lot of beautiful brick, official looking buildings. It's Virginia after all....the buildings look fabulous.
We arrived first at the Courthouse Cafe, a quaint diner next to the courthouse! Within 10-15 minutes Terry and Mark arrived! How nice to see their smiling faces and after hugs we sat down and eventually ordered some drink and food. The three of them had breakfast (it's served all day) and I ordered green beans, mashed potatoes and pickled beets. We had a wonderful time chatting and catching up.
I hope we get to meet up again and sooner than four years
Tomorrow we're on the road to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. We don't like traveling in rainy weather but we've got reservations.

Lovely Dinner with Family
Our dinner at Carrabba's was delicious! Chris, Sonsearae, Bobby, Jim and I had a good time sharing this meal. Jim and I shared some steamed mussels then our soup and salad arrived. Jim had a Caesar salad while I 'enjoyed' a bowl of minestrone. I'm not sure there is one recipe for minestrone but the soup I had was really 'different', it had cabbage! and no pasta. Tasty nonetheless.
For out meal I chose Tag Pic Pac, not sure how it got that name but it's pasta made with delicious tomatoes, basil and garlic. Of course I brought most of mine home. Jim had chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, I forget the name of the dish. He brought some home.
Three of us shared a bottle of Gabbiano Chianti wine which is a favorite of mine.
Dessert was three different kinds! Tiramisu of course, mini cannoli and a butter cream cake with fruit. All of them very tasty.
Once home we just relaxed. I know I watched a couple hours of Hawaii on Nat Geo and Jim played a game on his computer. Neither one of us got hungry until after eight o'clock. He made himself a peanut butter sandwich with honey and I had some popcorn.
We spent the evening watching PBS. A show about Royal Clothing, Poldark and The Crimson Field. The last two shows are series and I think we'll continue to watch them.
We have our cooling unit for the refrigerator, it arrived last Friday. Not sure when it will be installed. Also on Friday a Sears repairman came out and confirmed our wash machine needs a new control panel, ouch! It was ordered and he'll be back on the 29th to repair it. So I'll continue doing laundry next door for a wee bit longer.
Jim has a doctor appointment on the 9th of July. That's what we have to look forward to the next couple of weeks.

Happy Father's Day
I hope every dad out there has a great day today!
On Friday Bobby (Chris' son) arrived to spend the weekend with his dad. I know they went to a movie that evening so I didn't see him until Saturday. The two of them are quite a pair!
Sonsearae went to Houston last Thursday to be with a friend as she said goodbye to her husband. Back home yesterday she was planning dinner as they drove home! She's our social director. Usually she has to work on Sunday so there isn't much time for socializing as the alarm goes off way to early for her to stay up late the night before.
Jim broke out the grill and he and Chris cooked bison burgers and corn on the cob. I contributed some baked beans, while Sonsearae fixed tater tots and cooked a couple black bean burgers. Some lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and condiments made up the rest of the meal. We fixed our plates and along with cold beer and iced tea we sat at the dining table and we all ate our fill and had a good time talking. No cell phones until the meal was over.
Dinner this afternoon will be at Carrabba's as we ladies know our men like Italian food!

Fort Matanzas
Our destination Saturday was Ft Matanzas but we had to make some stops along the way. The day was lovely and during the course of the afternoon I heard many people express this many times.
After breakfast and doing the morning chores we dressed and headed to St Augustine. Our first stop was Bed, Bath and Beyond. For Veterans they had 20 percent off your entire purchase so we decided to see what they had that we couldn't live without. I found some serving pieces to go with our new silverware (more on that in another post) and we found a rug that fit the front door entry...have to laugh, we don't have a back door!
Next I dashed into Michael's right next door for some crafting supplies and Horehound drops for Jim. I picked some up last time we were here and he likes them...
Next we headed to Verizon to see if the screen protectors for Jim's phone were in stock....they were.
Whew all this shopping makes you hungry! Across the street was a Carrabba's so we popped in for a wonderful lunch. Jim had Sangria and I had Chianti to drink with the delicious bread and olive oil they supply you with while waiting for our meal. Jim ordered a shrimp Alfredo dish and I had linguine with tomatoes, mushrooms, artichokes and garlic. I brought a lot home and they gave me another loaf of bread to eat with it!
Then it was off to Diane's Natural Market for some coffee creamer. I'm not sure why, but they always give me a hard time with coupons!
Now that the shopping is out of the way we headed for the coast. Driving south on A1A is always enjoyable and before long we were pulling into Ft Matanzas National Monument By the way, there is no charge to enter
After a short, free ferry ride we disembarked to tour this well preserved fort. I think this is the smallest fort I've ever seen. It's 50 feet on either side with a 30 foot tower. Only seven men were assigned here. One officer, four infantrymen and two gunners. The brochure say up to 50 men could be here during a crisis...I think it would be standing room only!

After the tour we headed across the street to the beach. there was a northeast wind blowing and the waves were pretty

After drooling over the artworks inside and outside we hopped back into the truck, heading south and stopped in at Washington Gardens State Park. No camping here but it's great for gatherings and picnics. Great park on both sides of the highway. Access to the intracoastal waterway on the west for fishing and the Atlantic for the ocean
By now we're about done for the day so we headed further south on A1A to Flagler Beach where it looked like something was happening...cars and people everywhere! We just kept driving heading west and going home.
Sunday Jim woke up with an infection in his mouth. It really looked like someone punched him and it would have been comical except he was in pain also. Still he went to work and I planned mushy foods for him to eat.
The Saints played the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football and we watched until they pulled Drew Brees from the game. We looked and looked but couldn't see Sonsearae and Chris in the crowd! They went over to New Orleans for the weekend to see the game and to have fun with friends who happen to be Cowboy fans.

Cripple Creek, Colorado
Up at the crack of dawn! I don’t mind getting up early, it’s quiet and practically no one is out side. I can watch the critters and birds and follow the progress of the sun as it rises ever higher in the sky.
This morning the sun was peeking through clouds and as the time passed more clouds covered the sky. Jim got up before 0800! Doesn’t happen often.
We knew there was going to be a power outage for an hour this morning so we went shopping! Actually we just headed over to the BX to see what they have the we went to the Commissary and picked up some groceries. Not sure why, we don't seem to stay home to eat them!
Once home we did eat some lunch then we headed out for a drive. Our destination? Cripple Creek. This is our third time in this area and our third visit to Cripple Creek! I just love being driven in the mountains. Jim does an excellent job of finding narrow roads to scare me!
Seriously we both enjoy the views and I think Jim likes the challenge. We drove on the Gold Camp Road and the Old Stage Road. I have a lot of pictures to share with you but I'm having an awful time getting them to upload so check back, I promise to post them soon. Some are on Facebook
The last few miles of the Old Stage Road were quite bumpy but as we neared the end of the drive we saw Broadmoor down in the valley. Quite breathtaking, so it was worth it. Once we came down off the mountains we ran into some light rain, driving through it into sunshine.
We both admitted to being hungry so we stopped at Carrabba's http://www.carrabbas.com/ for dinner. Jim had Spiedino Di Mare (Shrimp and sea scallops coated with Italian breadcrumbs, grilled and topped with lemon butter sauce) which came with a salad and cavatappi amatriciana. I had Pollo Rosa Maria (chicken stuffed with fontina and prosciutto, topped with mushrooms and a basil lemon butter sauce) which came with soup and garlic mashed potatoes. Red wine to wash it down but no dessert. We enjoyed every bite but I did not like my minestrone soup.....
At home Boo was glad to see us and I quickly fed him as it was past his dinner time. I settled in with some coffee and we've been relaxing this evening. Around 2100 we heard some rain but it was just a light shower.
