It's about time...

We left Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort around 1000 last Tuesday, May 1st.  We both took our time getting ready to leave, several days in fact.  We were delayed by rain and wet conditions.  A few days prior to our departure Jim finished the slide repair and replacing the insulation and installing the belly pan.  I don’t think he wants to crawl under the rig ever again!

Our drive took us up Conway to Monte Cristo over to Edinburgh where we hopped on Highway 281.  Then the long boring road to take us north began.  Passed through the checkpoint without a hitch.  Stopped in Falfurrias for lunch. We always eat in the rig.  I had salad and Jim had a chicken sandwich.  Not sure what highway we took from there....77 maybe, but eventually we made it to Corpus Christi.  Hung a right heading east where just before you catch the highway to Mustang Island, you turn left to go to the Naval Air Station.

The campground on the base is located on the bay and it’s a favorite.  While setting up Jim got an invitation to happy hour at the clubhouse.  All we had to bring was wine, food was provided.  Our neighbors Paula and Joe are very nice.  They proceeded to tell us all about their plans for the next few days and included us if interested.  Tomorrow, for Cinco de Mayo,  they’re cooking fajitas for anyone who wants them.  Others are bringing sides.  At this point I don't know if we're going.

Anyway we enjoyed the food, wine and company but headed home before they broke out the dice game. We were tired and ready to relax.  I’m sure all had a good time without us.

Wednesday we went shopping and enjoyed pizza at B & J’s Pizza and Brew Pub.   Tried a new brew Austin Eastcider grapefruit.  Very tasty!  After a run to HEB we headed home.

Thursday we also went shopping...Jim is looking for another grill.  I can’t remember if it was Wednesday or Thursday but we also went to the mall to get some walking inside out of the wind.  Oh, did I mention we’ve had gale force winds the past few days?  Could hardly get in and out of the rig safely.

Today the winds were under twenty miles an hour so we went to Mustang Island and Port Aransas.  Drove around a bit, headed to the beach (where you can drive on the beach).  Found a place to park and we walked the beach.  Several folks were enjoying the shore but the surf was rough and the red flag was flying.  It was good to smell the salt air and dig my toes in the sand.

We had lunch at Fins Grill and Icehouse overlooking the marina.  We sat outside enjoying our drinks and sandwiches.  Jim tried the Austin Eastcider Pineapple they had on draft.  It's pretty good too.  I had a Ziegenbock.  

There are areas of Mustang Island where they're still recovering from the hurricane.  But for the most part it's business as usual.. Island life, if you live there you just clean up and start again!

We'll stay here until next Tuesday when we'll continue north to Spring Branch, just outside San Antonio.  We stayed there last year.

Bad, bad, bad

This once a month blogging has got to stop!  :)

Obviously we’re all settled in and life continues. Most every day we see more and more people checking in.  This time of year working in Guest Services at Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort is slow.

We’ve been to Mexico and plan another visit soon.  We’ve revisited some of our favorite restaurants.  Jim has been to see his doctor about his GERD meds and it was changed, but we're not sure it's working as it should.  He returns early next month.

On the 10th of November we both had a free meal at BJ’s Brewhouse for Veterans Day. It was limited to $12.95 and we both stuck to that.  Of course we each had a beer .  The meal was good and we brought a little bit home to enjoy later.

I'm letting my hair grow as Jim has mentioned several times that he would like me too.  The jury is still out on this change.  Keeping it trimmed while growing is a monthly visit to the salon.  It sure is curly!

Boo is slowing down a bit.  He mostly sleeps and prefers Jim's chair over mine.  As the weather cools down I'm sure he'll stick to us like glue.

Once again I'm being bitten by what everyone claims is chiggers.  Since I've not seen what bites me I have to clue.  But they itch and ooze and make my life uncomfortable 

We're having Thanksgiving here at the resort.  Four couples to a table.  The resort supplies the turkey and those at your table bring the sides....I'm doing potatoes! What will you be having and will you share your meals with others?

George West Texas

We left Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort yesterday around 0930.  Taking our time to pack up and remember everything that needed to be done to travel.  Forgot to take the swim noodles off the bedroom slide...no problem, just unlock the door, go inside and send the slide out a few inches then reverse the steps. 

Our first stop was getting the rig inspected....pretty sure that was the first time since the original inspection ten years ago. So we're good to travel about again.

Wednesday evening we had dinner out with our friends Jeni and Don Wilson at what's turning out to be our favorite restaurant in the Valley, La Playa. Good food and our waitress, Lulu was excellent!  Most of all it was good company.  We look forward to returning to Bentsen Palm this winter not only to see the Wilsons but other friends who will be making their way south for the season.

Since we weren't sure how long the rig inspection would take we decided on this overnight stay in George West at the Rocking J campground.  Nice and clean with mostly grass sites that looked spaced out. We got a pull through with full hook ups for $20.  It also has a slab!  And it was level!  

Coming up Highway 281 we didn't see any damage from Hurricane Harvey.  This area is pretty far inland and northwest of Corpus Christi.  We stopped for lunch just after 1100 but neither of us ate much. We were eager to get to our destination.

Once we set up we relaxed a bit, had a beer and a bite to eat.  Jim napped for a bit then went out to top up the fuel on the truck.  Our evening was filled with quiet activities and a prerecorded episode of NCIS New Orleans.  Love that we don't have to worry about setting up the dish for one night go television.

Today we'll continue our journey to San Antonio and enjoy the sights and food of one of our favorite cities.

Stunning Sunrise

Our weekend was quiet...of course every day is pretty much quiet!  Not many folks are staying here.  A couple of rigs and I think two casitas.  Don and Jeni are the perfect hosts!  They don't bother us and we don't bother them.  You know, we older couples like our spouses and have gotten used to our routines.

Saturday and Sunday we had gorgeous sunrises.  There was a weather system that gave us clouds but very little rain.

This picture was taken Sunday morning and I couldn't believe how nice it was outside.  Around 0730 I went for a walk and the temperature was only 71.  By the time I'd walked a mile and returned home it was 76..and it continued to rise.  We're getting into the upper 90's most days.

Have you ever been plagued by ants?  We can't seem to get rid of them and I'm pretty sure we've had them off and on for a couple years.  I've found them in the wash machine, shower, our bed but mostly in our kitchen.

We ended yesterday by watching PBS and eating popcorn.  Today was laundry day for me.  I stripped the bed and dusted the bedroom.

New Phone, Different (old) Laptop

Awhile back I got a new phone, Samsung Galaxy S7.  It has taken me several weeks of thinking (I'm slow) of how to import pictures from my phone onto this older, former Asus laptop.  I think I know how to upload pictures from my cameras but I'll have to purchase a doohickey to do it.

My newer laptop, Dell I think, has stopped working.  For awhile it was troublesome...taking two or three tries to even start it.  We'd reboot and finally it would work.  Couple times we'd took the battery out and then it would work.  Now nothing works....by we, I mean Jim of course, he's my go to tech guy!  Love you honey.

For the time being we're remaining in the valley.  The reasons are personal but not medical.  We're still at Bentsen Palm Village RV Resort.  Not much going on here and we've only a few guests.

These pictures aren't the best but at least I know how to share them!

sunrise June 7th

Baby possum found in our water  collection bucket.  Jim dumped him out and he played possum while we waited for signs of life.  About a half hour later he was gone.
