Catching Up

In case you were wondering, we're still in DeFuniak Springs at Twin Lakes.  But we have only a few days left as we leave on the 9th and head west to spend the winter, or more in Spring Branch Texas.  Speaking of Spring Branch, where were you a year ago?  We were in Spring Branch!  We like it there so going going back is like going home..

I will miss Twin Lakes Camp Resort.  I love being on the water.  Of course I also like being closer to Sonsearae and Chris.

We've been getting our ducks in a row and making plans for traveling.  We finally replaced the windshield on the truck.  For the past couple of years it has taken a beating and we had chips and stars all over it.  One created a crack that stayed the same for a long time.  But it had extended another inch in this Florida sun so we thought it was time for a new one.  The cost was about what we expected but not the gift they gave Jim.  A box of steaks!  They're in the freezer.

Speaking of the freezer...our Samsung refrigerator froze up and stopped cooling but the freezer was just fine.  So we emptied it out, using the freezer in the club house and our small cooler.  Unplugged the unit and left it overnight.  Plugged it back it and it is again freezing up.  Though not rapidly.  We cannot find anyone in the area to come out and look at it.  

The rig got a much needed washing a few days ago.  Today Jim washed all the outside windows and our home on wheels looks ever so nice.  

I noticed one of our overhead lights had a stain on it from water...not good! Did I mention we've had a lot of rain while here?  It is Florida and summer is the rainy season.  Jim inspected the roof and decided to reseal it.  Two coats should do the trick.  Bless his heart because it was hot outside and I'm not sure why he didn't go blind from the glare.

We've been to the beach of course, several times!  Best place for fresh seafood no matter which restaurant you choose.  We ate at Tailfins twice..overlooking an inlet and the Gulf of Mexico.  The inlet always has a parade of boats

Reading, card making and a wee bit of TV and Netflix occupy our days.  Because of trees we've relied on the cable they have here, but I think it's safe to say that we're looking forward to having our Direct TV back on the 9th if all goes according to plan.

Crepe Myrtle

Are you familiar with these beautiful trees?  There are about 50 genus of these bushes and trees, native to Southeast Asia.  When we lived in New Orleans we saw them everywhere.  But they were kept small or it was a small species and every year trimmed to retain a certain height. 

Here at Twin Lakes Camp Resort there are several tall, tall trees!

Reminds me of a song....

Here at Twin Lakes Camp Resort we're on a peninsula, sort of, at the end of Holley King Rd.  So named because the sun rises on 

Holley Lake 

and sets on 

King Lake

There's a small dam between the two, which I keep meaning to ask about, where water from Holley Lake is diverted into King Lake.

It burbles up and is mesmerizing to watch.

I think I mentioned before that we've not seen a lot of water birds. Not sure why as the lakes have fish in the clear waters so I'm sure herons and egrets could find something to eat.  There are lot's of turtles!  And I'm always looking for gators.  It is Florida and gators are everywhere

We've had a lot of rain and as far as I remember summertime has it's showers most every afternoon.  Believe it or not it helps lower the temperatures.  But then you have the humidity!

We had a good time in Tallahassee with Sonsearae and Chris.  Of course they both worked during the week and we didn't intrude to often.  We enjoy spending time with them and I think they like us!  We shared several meals, some in their beautiful new home and some at the local restaurants.  We went to the movies!

Also while in Tallahassee we attended a 50th birthday bash for Jim's daughter Christy.  It was held at her feed store and her place of residence, Country Feed Store and Garden Supply.  What fun!  Of course there were a lot of people, a lot of food and from what I saw everyone had a good time.  We also got to see Jim's son William, his grandchildren Callie and Jack, and a great grandson!  Callie lives south of here in Destin and I expect we'll see more of here and that sweet baby.

We've been here since last Thursday and plan to stay two months.  Then we'll head west to our wintering spot in Spring Branch Texas

Travel days wear us out!  Breaking camp an setting up is no longer fun, just something to get through.  We've mostly settled in.  Jim has most of the kayak ready to hit the water.  But the trikes are pretty much stored under the slide.  Gravel here isn't good for the tires.

Yesterday we headed to Crestview to get my coffee cream.  I can only find it in Publix.  Here in De Funiak we have Walmart and Winn Dixie so groceries aren't a problem.  Though I haven't been inside, we also have a Piggly Wiggly express store..

Jim is up from his nap and the thunder is getting closer.  Some rain has started to fall.

Our Site at Twin Lakes Camp Resort

As promised here is the site we're on.  Our back window looks out over Lake Holley.  After several attempts Jim managed to get our rig situated on the site.  Looking face on, there is a 6-8 inch drop off on the right side of the slab.  The water hook up was close too and we had to make sure our slide would come out.  So back and forth he went.  I'm so proud of him!  He didn't get real surly and he missed the trees, the drop off and the fence.  We had to take the bikes and rack off the rig and he then backed it almost to the fence.

The sun comes up to the left so mornings are brilliant! Double blinds to keep the heat out.We can see sunset out the side dining room window over on Lake King  Last night it was quite pretty but we weren't dressed for strolling around.

As you can see there isn't room for the truck, we're up the hill in overflow parking.  Good exercise and so far it hasn't rained!

Yesterday we had a productive day.  Jim was up early Like 0600 early!  Doesn't happen often and after breakfast, dishes and other chores we headed to Walmart for some groceries.  Once home the early hour got to him and Jim took a nap.

After his restorative nap Jim put the kayak together and we hope to get it in the water soon.  That sucker is heavy and we'll have to carry it to the launch because the tires are flat on the dolly to tote it.  After working on it much of the afternoon he decided a dip in the pool would be refreshing.  The water was tepid....so we didn't stay long and once home we showered and changed into our jammies and that's why the sunset eluded us.

For out mid day meal Jim grilled some zucchini, onions and a pork steak.  Along with the potato salad and BBQ beans we ate pretty good.  While he's napping I'm doing the blog.

We like this place and who knows we may return sooner rather than later.

Sonsearae and Chris are coming over this weekend.  It sure will be nice to see them.  Chris has a daughter that lives just west of here in Crestview. It's going to a family reunion!
