We left around 0900 and made a couple stops, one for Subway sandwiches and one for fuel. Scotty drove. We took the back road and more scenic of the drives to get there. Not sure how far into the trip but the road turned into a gravel road and it was up and down and snaky. Sure had some beautiful sights as these pictures show.
Anne spotted the orange flower so we stopped and it turns out this is a memorial to someone or something. Even had a light on it. A little cairn of rocks holds up the cross
here's a postcard for you! :) This sign was at the entrance to the town, they actually have a boardwalk. We drove through the town to check it out and discovered a lot of motorcyclists like this town also! Not sure why Jim didn't take a couple pictures.
the donkey's come to town to be fed. They are the descendants of the miner's donkey's and are wild up to a point.
They are used to the people and get fed carrots. She trotted right over to Anne and I looking for a handout.

We left going a different route and found the rest of the herd heading into town for lunch!

We drove a bit further and found a wide spot where they park to hike into the desert. It was a wee bit windy for tailgating so we ate our lunch inside the car.
Jim and I had leftover spaghetti for dinner while watching Dancing with the Stars and afterwards headed out for some ice cream. We also fueled up at Sam's Club paying $2.97 for diesel.
