Why is it so hot here?

The last few days have been hot! The temperature reaching the mid to upper nineties. It's still 88 degrees outside and it's 2021. I know a lot of you are wondering why I'm complaining and it's because it's to hot to be outside and the AC runs constantly!

We went to a party Sunday at the Wilson's. Don and Jeni are the managers here at Bentsen Palm RV Resort and the party was for the First In Club. Only those who check in between October 1st and 15th are members. Perhaps twenty of us there and we had a good time. Everyone brought a dish while brats, Italian sausage and burgers were supplied. Oh and margarita's served by the Browns, Terry and Mark. They have a Margaritaville Tahiti Frozen Concoction Maker, three pitchers at one time!

A few days ago, around the time we had the full moon, I was able to take some pictures of the moon setting the next morning.
Last night Jim and I took a ride around the resort and boy was the sunset pretty. We got home in time for me to take a few pictures
I was out walking this morning and noticed more butterflies. The gardeners have been trimming the bushes and trees and now that they're growing out and blooming the butterflies are coming around. I have a hummingbird visiting my feeder

this huge moth was hanging around the office on the screen door
Jim and I have been reading books by James Rollins, if you need some exciting reading pick up one of the books. Spies, fast action and fast paced books. Right now I'm reading Judas Strain

"Oh how we love pumpkin season.
You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right?
Winter, Spring, Summer, Pumpkin.... We anxiously anticipate it every year."

Passing days

Autumn is my favorite time of year and I enjoy reading our friends blogs and seeing pictures of fall color. We don't have 'fall' in the south and definitely not in south Texas.

We have to find our color elsewhere. Most mornings I'm up early enough to see the sun rise. The colors range from pink and mauve to flaming orange.
Jim busy cleaning the palapa

the full moon the other night gave me a hard time. After taking a gazillion pictures I managed to salvage a few good shots. Most I posted on Facebook

Clouds kept blowing across and made for a few nice shots. The wind has been blowing hard the past couple days.
Went to the movies yesterday with Jim and saw Red staring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman. What a fun movie! We both like action movies and this one had us laughing.

Same old, same old

Jim and I have been busy. I really can't say he is 'enjoying' work camping but he does it well! Right now he's been busy getting the palapa's pressure washed and it's not easy. After several hours he's tired, dirty and wet. He's been doing this work in the mornings and comes home for lunch.

While he's gone I do my normal morning chores and I've been getting the cabinets and drawers all tidied up. I've even found some items I forgot I had!

Yesterday we had happy hour at the Scott's. Anne made pina colada's, everyone brought something to eat and we didn't break up the fun until well after dark!

This afternoon Jim and I went to BOA and handed over more paperwork in an effort to get our insurance claim. Then we headed to Barnes and Nobles and killed time looking at magazines and books. After that we went to Tony Roma's for dinner

Boo was really happy to see us when we got home. When Jim took him out he wanted to see Anne but they've gone to San Antonio....Anne if you're reading this Boo misses you! So do I....I had to go to Walmart all by myself!

Sunrise to Sunset

How about some pictures? I managed to take a lot of pictures today and I've only included a few here. I slept well last night. First time in a long while.

As I was making coffee and opening the blinds noticed the sun coming up and got this shot. It really is a magical moment to watch the sun rise. The colors are spectacular!

After breakfast Anne and I went biking looking for anything to take a picture of.
This Palm is in the pool area

Our flowers are beautiful

As are the butterflies

Tonight we shared a shrimp boil with Anne and Scotty. It was our first meal together since we arrived in the valley. I know it won't be the last! After dinner and dishes Anne and I went for another ride ending the day

There's a pasture on one side of the resort

Sunset was as beautiful as the sunrise......I'll be posting all the pictures on Facebook if you want to see all of them

New Awnings!

We were up early and sitting at Camping World at 0800 this morning. We had gotten the rig ready for travel yesterday and all we had left to do this morning didn't take but 30 minutes and we were on the road. Fortified with a cup of coffee I was ready! Driving into the rising sun we were eager to get our awnings replaced.

The patio awning and motor were replaced. We opted to have two window awnings for the two windows because we never used the back awning. They look great and Jim says they're easy to use.

Now we can get our patio set up for our stay here.
Boo had an eleven o'clock grooming appointment and since the awning installation was taking longer than expected I asked Anne to pick us up and drive us to Dapper Dog. In the middle of laundry she dropped everything and came to the rescue! After we dropped him off we went shopping stopping at Dollar Tree and HEB.
This VW was parked next to Anne's car when we came out of HEB. Mexican plates and in mint condition! It looked brand new to me.
Jim was back at the Resort by this time and managed to set up without me.....I only had a couple things to do inside and we're settled in for the winter. As soon as he can I'm sure Jim will have the patio space enclosed and we'll have the extra living space outside.

this egret was stalking the fence line. It was fun watching him walk back and forth eating bugs.

I'm sure this little wren is the one that sleeps next door. But he was giving us a once over.

Lovely Days

We've had a beautiful week weather wise. Mid 80's during the days and temperatures dipping into the low 60's at night. Even had one morning where the low was 59 when I got up.

We haven't done anything special. Daily chores don't take up much time. Jim took today off from any work and he deserves it.
Moonrise tonight......do you see the crescent?

Sunset was kinda nice too!

Listen to the Mockingbird!

Have I mentioned I like my new camera? It's great being able to take pictures like this! A lovely ending to this day

Busy Days!

The last few days have been busy with day to day life. Shopping, catching up with friends, happy hours and Jim has been work camping. None of this is difficult, just time consuming and it wears a body out!

Anne and Scotty are right next door. Pat and Vern in a circle site are biking distance away and Diana and John who arrived Sunday are on a super site, also biking distance away. Mark and Terry also returned Sunday.

We went to Hayashi on Sunday to celebrate Anne and Scotty's Anniversary and had a wonderful late lunch. There were six of us and we all enjoyed the Hibachi dinners. At happy hour Sunday we gathered at Pat and Vern's where we did some catching up with the new arrivals.

Jim started his new job on Monday getting the resorts bikes ready for the winter guests. Spending his mornings working and then his afternoons working on our awning replacement. We thought having the check in hand would make the process easy but so far we've been doing paperwork and passing back and forth with the bank and Camping World. The parts have been ordered so now we wait some more.

After dinner last night we headed over to Diana and Johns. It was Diana's birthday so we had a mini celebration. Jim and I also got a tour of their new Cameo. It has a peninsula like ours and a washer and a dryer. Very nice.

I think that's about all the highlights from the past few days. I think all this socializing wearing me out!

cleaning and setting up

Another day, another beautiful sunrise. Yesterday we did our morning chores and then dressed to head into town taking Anne and Scotty with us.

We stopped by Camping World to inquire about replacing our awnings. Right now they have a special going on. No labor charges. Jim bought a couple items and Anne got a new patio mat. Then it was on to Harbor Freight because they're having a sidewalk sale. The Scotts picked up some items but we didn't.

Since it was lunchtime we stopped at Chili's on the way home, they have 2/$20 going on. Jim had ribs and I had a salad.

Once home Jim headed outside to do more chores. He removed the bike rack and hitch and he set up the patio with the mat. Looks better with the patio mat!

We had leftovers for dinner. Afterwords I headed out for a walk with Anne but we didn't get far! Pat and Vern were walking their dogs and stopped for a chat, then Don stopped by and we all just stood outside watching the sun go down and the swallows pass by over head.

After the sun went down Anne and I saw fireflies. Of course the mosquitoes chased us in but not before we heard the coyotes! From the sounds we heard it's a bigger pack than last year.

Bentsen Palm RV Resort Mission, Texas

We arrived in Mission on Thursday around 1300 and it was hot! The thermometer said 90 and on a concrete pad that heat just melts you. Our drive from Corpus Christi was without incident and one of the things I noticed about the drive was how green everything is. On one stretch of highway I saw 8-10 Cara Cara's! These stately birds are beautiful and to see so many was indeed a treat for me.

Jim worked all afternoon setting up and getting things tidy outside. I stayed inside and enjoyed the air conditioning. Pat and Vern arrived on Wednesday and invited us out for pizza so we headed to Pizza Hut and had fun catching up with them.

I have this pretty pink rose in my garden area.

Yesterday I was up at 0700 and watched the sun come up. It will be interesting to see the progression of the suns path through the 6 months we'll be here.
Yesterday was bed day so I stripped the sheets off and got them in the washer. Jim headed outside to start getting the salt spray off the rig and wash the windows. I made a run to HEB and was back in time for lunch.
Anne and Scotty were on their way and we ladies were texting one another on our progress to the valley. Anne didn't know I was already here! She knew we'd arrived first because we were closer. They arrived around 1600 and in no time at all they were set up.
Pat had fixed sloppy joes and salad and we were invited along with the Scott's and Jeni and Don the managers here at Bentsen Palm Resort. We had a wonderful time catching up and we got home just after 2000.
We relaxed until 2200 and then hit the sack. I for one slept well.
One disappointing thing, the Bentsen Rio Grande State Park is not open. The flooding earlier this year has taken a toll and I haven't heard when it will re-open.
