Colorful Seasons from Stampin' Up!

Are you interested in card making but not sure where to begin?  It isn't difficult and cards can be made quite inexpensively.  With just a few supplies you can start making and sending your creations!

Colorful Seasons from Stampin' Up! has 24 photopolymer stamps that can be used year round!  You will need some clear blocks to mount the stamps.  I will show you what can be made with these stamps over my next few posts.

These two cards were made using note cards (5 x 3 1/2 inches).  Just simple stamping with whatever colors you choose

On the left I used Flirty Flamingo for the sentiment and flowers.  On the right Sweet Sugarplum.  The branch was done with Close to Cocoa on the left which is no longer available.  On the right is Chocolate Chip ink, which I think looks better.

There's plenty of room inside for a cheerful greeting, or quick note. Could even be used for a thank you or birthday card.  I used the Thinking of You stamp inside.

It's Official!

Summer is hot here in the Valley...103 yesterday.  Just after 1200 and it's 93 out there.

We've been keeping an eye on the pauraque down by the back gate.  She kept moving her nest...Last we say was in the middle of the drive last Saturday.  But she's gone now.  I can't imagine why any bird would want to lay eggs in direct sunlight.  I know that the one egg we saw looked just like the rocks she was sitting on.

Jim has been painting, not a job he cares for, but the Clubhouse looks ever so much better.  It's a lighter color than the yellowish shade it was before.

He's now working on the North laundry and it's going to match the clubhouse

That's our rig, just wanted to show you how tall the Mexican Bird of Paradise is on the site next to us.  It apparently thrives in this weather.  As does the Esperanza

All of the palm trees here and at Retama have been trimmed.  Also all those on the frontage road.  I wonder how long it will take for them to look like palm trees again?  I'll let you know!

Because.....it's official, we're working the winter season in guest services again.

Stunning Sunrise

Our weekend was quiet...of course every day is pretty much quiet!  Not many folks are staying here.  A couple of rigs and I think two casitas.  Don and Jeni are the perfect hosts!  They don't bother us and we don't bother them.  You know, we older couples like our spouses and have gotten used to our routines.

Saturday and Sunday we had gorgeous sunrises.  There was a weather system that gave us clouds but very little rain.

This picture was taken Sunday morning and I couldn't believe how nice it was outside.  Around 0730 I went for a walk and the temperature was only 71.  By the time I'd walked a mile and returned home it was 76..and it continued to rise.  We're getting into the upper 90's most days.

Have you ever been plagued by ants?  We can't seem to get rid of them and I'm pretty sure we've had them off and on for a couple years.  I've found them in the wash machine, shower, our bed but mostly in our kitchen.

We ended yesterday by watching PBS and eating popcorn.  Today was laundry day for me.  I stripped the bed and dusted the bedroom.

Stamping Up!

Are you interested in making cards?  Don't know where to start?  How about a Kit?  Stampin' Up! has several to choose from.

Today I'm sharing Soft Sayings All Inclusive Card Kit.  You'll get everything you need to make 20 cards, two of each design.  You'll only need some liquid adhesive and perhaps some glue dots.

Here's a couple I made yesterday.  The card on the left is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2.  On the right 3 1/2 x 5.  The other size card is 3 x 3.  A little stamping and gluing, that's all there is to it!  All of the envelopes have the colored flap

Check out this video to see how easy it can be to make your own cards then let me know if you're interested.

As you saw in the video, the kit comes with 15 Soft Sayings stamps, Basic Grey ink spot, a clear block, all the card bases and envelopes, some washi tape and dimensional glue dots.  You'll need some liquid adhesive or a snail

How was your 4th of July?

Ours was quiet. Stayed home and enjoyed 'traditional ' food.  Jim had hotdogs and potato salad while I had a veggie burger and a cucumber tomato salad.  We both had beer and pretzels!  While we ate we watched Independence Day...one of our favorite movies.

Yesterday and today have been quiet.  We do our chores and play games...

Found out the crew taking care of the palm trees are just doing those.  They've done quite a few over in Retama and they look silly.  But driving around town I've seen others trimmed this way.  Apparently several years worth of fronds are cut off leaving just this years growth.

Bit of excitement today...we had to replace our sewer hose.  A trip to Wally world and we're good to go.  Also picked up paraphernalia so we can put our screen back on and leave the awning out.  This side of the rig gets the full sun all morning and I'm hoping this will keep us 'cooler' for a bit.  The AC comes on early and runs all day.

While fooling with this outside I discovered a hole in the ground...thought we had us a snake but apparently it's just a very big toad!

This was taken last Christmas Day on Padre Island...looks refreshing

Happy 4th of July!

I'm sorry I haven't been blogging.  Just isn't much to write about.  Last week was a hot one here and I understand it was hotter than normal for this time of year.  Make no mistake, it's still hot here. Temperatures have been in the upper 90's and by afternoon we pass the triple digits. But it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. There isn't much humidity to deal with during the day. Of course we spend  little time outdoors!  Jim gets his work done around noon.  Comes home, showers and then we enjoy each other's company while the temperature climbs.

While Jim is out in the mornings I take care of my chores and squeeze in some time for my card making.  I've just posted some new stuff under Paper Crafts and if you click on that page you can see what I've been making. These four are just a sample.

We finally bought a card reader for the laptop and I don't have to rely on my phone for pictures.  Hopefully I'll be posting more of my work and update you on the growth of the landscaping in the resort soon. Despite the lack of rain everything is growing and looking better than last month after they hacked all the bushes.

Yesterday a crew arrived to trim all the trees. I look forward to seeing this done!  They'll rid the palms of dead fronds and the flowering stalks and fruit. The later makes a big mess, much like the Texas olive tree fruit.  Not sure if they'll tackle the other trees, time will tell.

Whatever your plans are today, enjoy and remember our freedom isn't free.  Men and women have given their all for this privilege.
