4th of July Weekend with Sonsearae and Chris

What a good time we had entertaining and being entertained this beautiful Fourth of July weekend! On Saturday afternoon Sonsearae and Chris arrived and after a short visit we went into town and strolled Dock Street. We wandered into a couple shops, went out onto the pier and Chris took pictures.

Then we headed to The Island Room for a sumptuous dinner where we all ate to much! We all had pasta dishes after starters of bruschetta, mixed seafood and Chris had an andouille sausage. With my meal I had a glass of pinot grigio while the others had iced tea. We had three desserts! Chris had a brownie sundae, Jim had bread pudding and Sonsearae and I shared a Key Lime Tart. I was the only one who brought food home! We waddled back to the truck and headed home.

After a brief respite to change clothes and shoes we stopped in at the Tiki Bar and enjoyed a cold beer or two. I really don't recall. We didn't stay long and each couple retired for some much needed rest.

Sunday we did a nature walk over by the cemetery. There's a boardwalk over the marsh and it was interesting to view this part of the area. We saw a lot of birds, especially Osprey! They were flying around overhead and calling out to each other. It was about the only sound we heard except the lapping of water in a few places. Back in town we tried to go to the museum but it was closed. We were to early.

About this time we decided we wanted to have our lunch so we headed home and Chris grilled some turkey tenderloins while Sonsearae and I fixed salad and Spanish rice. We sat outside, it was a bit warm but we enjoyed the meal. After lunch we all took a break and just chilled. Around 1600 we had some coconut cream pie that Sonsearae made. It was luscious! All vegan and even Jim liked it!

The Low Key Hide Away motel and campground was full this weekend. We met some of them at the Tiki Bar. One young couple from Germany are traveling the North American Continent in a small van camper then heading to South America and then onto the African Continent before heading home. Quite and adventure and I'm sure they'll have stories to tell everyone for a long time.

Yesterday we started our day with breakfast at Kona Joe's. It was nice sitting outside overlooking the water ways. Food was good too! After breakfast we went into town, found a spot to park and headed to Dock Street so we could watch the parade. I don't recall ever seeing so many golf carts in one parade!

this gentleman saw the camera and saluted!

being a fishing village you need a boat in the parade.

all of the golf carts were decorated

how do you like the size of this one?

this had custom critters on it.

Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam rolled by on this motorcycle

We strolled the shops on Second Street and since it was warming up came home around noon. There was food and drinks set up in City Park but we didn't hang around for that. We knew were going to grill our lunch. We came home and by noon Jim was napping. A short time later Sonsearae and Chris joined me and we talked and watched TV. Not sure what time it was but we all decided it was time for lunch. Chris wrapped the corn on the cob in foil with butter and creole seasoning. I made a cucumber salad while Sonsearae cut up veggies for kabobs. Chris fired up the grill and put the corn on to grill and then cooked chicken breasts and the kabobs. Jim got up! We also had some barbecue beans that Sonsearae made. Again to much food but it sure was tasty!

After that meal Sonsearae and Chris napped, Jim did the dishes and he and I just chilled in the rig. Around 1600 we took the pie over and woke them up. A couple margaritas, some snacks and TV followed. Just killing time, waiting for sunset and the fireworks.

Jim took the trash out and stopped at the Tiki Bar. Apparently they had food over there and he didn't think to tell us! No harm done, but once Chris heard about it he headed over and around 2000 Sonsearae and I joined them.

After sunset the fireworks started

my camera did a valiant job but my timing wasn't great with the shutter. I only got a few shots that turned out

It was all over around 2200. Jim and I headed home and showered while Sonsearae and Chris packed up the car. They decided to head home rather than wait until 0400. Not sure what time the Tiki Bar emptied. they were still going strong when we went to bed and hour later.

We had fun, food and family for the fourth!
